1. Highlights
Would you like to buy a camper in Canada without stress, time and risk?
Then you’ve come to the right place. The no-obligation camper purchase on request is back, with lots of highlights:
Travel Ready
Compare offers, negotiate prices, pre-purchase inspection, repair, cleaning, bed conversion, fittings and equipment, safety check.
Everything is already done and you can start your adventure straight away.
Self-Contained
Mechanics are only human. In the event that they have overlooked a technical problem with your car, you are covered by a warranty for at least 4 weeks.
Breakdown-Warranty
We specifically look for offers from small, local providers that are still considered insider tips. As a result, we find significantly cheaper offers than from the large corporations.
Buypack-Option
Especially in the low season, many backpackers can’t get rid of their car when they leave. Then the financial loss is great. The buyback option protects you against this. More information below.
WOF & REGO
Only cars that have a valid WOF and registration are allowed to drive on Canada’s roads. Both are already done for your car and do not need to be renewed immediately after your departure.
Breakdown-Warranty
Rip-offs when buying a car are unfortunately widespread in Canada.
To avoid rip-offs, we only work with licensed companies. We also visit all companies regularly and would buy a car there ourselves. Apart from that, we collect internal feedback on every car.
How do I find out whether the offer suits me?
See answer... (Click here)Talk to us
Get in touch with us and ask. We’ll be happy to give you our honest feedback on whether it makes sense for your trip. πOtherwise:
Of course, you always have to decide for yourself in the end.
In general, however, we have come to the following conclusion over the last 5 years:No, the offer doesn’t suit you if…
… you feel like exploring Canada’s car market yourself and see this as part of your trip. This means looking for and comparing offers, negotiating prices, having checks carried out in garages and generally dealing with the dangers and pitfalls of buying a car in Canada.Yes, the offer suits you if…
… you would like to drive off in a reliable car as soon as you arrive. This means that you feel unsure about looking for a car, are generally not very familiar with cars and prefer to play it safe. Then this offer probably suits you very well. Our experience?
We ourselves have tried both methods several times. In our opinion, buying a car on your own is always a bit stressful and backfires badly for many backpackers. Nevertheless, it can be a valuable experience.
What our customers have to say about their adventures!

About the models shown
See answer... (Click here)Good to know: The models shown here may differ from the actual model, but should generally correspond to the size shown here. Background: The mechanics on site always have to work with the cars that are available on the car market (because they can’t conjure up cars).
Models that are often taken:
Budget campers: Station Wagons, Sedans, Hyundai Tucson
Light Camper: Subaru Legacy / Outback
Medium Camper – Basic: Toyota Ipsum, Mazda Premacy, Honda Odyssey, Toyota Wish
Medium Camper – Plus: Toyota Estima / Previa, Mazda MPV, Nissan Presage

Large Camper – Plus: Mitsubishi L300 LWB, Nissan Caravan, Isuzu Commo, Toyota HiaceEspecially in the high season, the larger models may no longer be available. If this is the case, a smaller model will be chosen if necessary. Fortunately, this is rarely the case and you always have the option of deciding against the purchase on site.
Live Impressions
Are you ready for your home on wheels? Here are a few (exemplary) pictures. The final models may vary, as the mechanics on site always have to work with the cars that are available.

The final conversion may differ from these pictures, as each partner workshop in Canada has its own procedures, processes and preferences when it comes to conversions and conversions.

3. The equipment
Highlight 1 – The Camper Kit
The camper kit contains everything you need for living and traveling in a car. This means you don’t have to search for equipment for a long time after buying it, but can start your adventure straight away. Practical!
What is included in the camper kit?
See answer... (Click here)A brief overview:
β Kitchenette
β Car radio
β Portable toilet
β Water tanks & sink
β Gas stove with cartridges
β Cutlery, crockery & cooking utensils
β Bedding, blankets & pillows
Highlight 2 – The Bed Conversion
All cars offer enough comfortable sleeping space for 2 people, which can also be converted into a seat in the larger models. This means you can spend the night comfortably in the car and save on accommodation costs.
A little more about the bed conversion and seats please?
See answer... (Click here)The bed conversion includes:
β Comfortable mattress
β Bed linen and covers
β Curtains for more privacyAbout the seats: The smaller models are designed for 2 people. The Large Camper variants have seating for 3 people. If more seating and sleeping space is required, extra costs may be incurred, as more complicated conversions and larger vehicles are required.
How much money do I need for accommodation if I buy a car WITHOUT a bed?
See answer... (Click here)It depends on what type of accommodation you book. Here are a few examples:
Hostels / campsites:
Around β¬20 to β¬50 per night
Cheap, but often in shared rooms or campsites.Motels / private accommodation:
Approx. β¬70 to β¬150 per night
More expensive, but more comfortable and often with private bathrooms and kitchenettes.Airbnb / vacation apartments:
Around β¬80 to β¬200 per night
Most expensive, but often very comfortable and good for longer stays. You should therefore budget at least β¬1500 per month if you only want to travel New Zealand with a normal car. As a rule, owning your own camper pays off quickly here.
And if you urgently need accommodation, you can always go wwoofing.
About the sample images shown
See answer... (Click here)Just so that there is no confusion: The pictures shown here are examples and therefore only serve as a general outlook. The conversion is carried out individually for each request and therefore depends heavily on the workshop and car model.
This means: that the final conversion may differ from these pictures.
4. The Extras
Extra 1Β – The Buyback Guarantee
At the end of your journey, you have the option of selling the car back to the garage. That way, you won’t be stuck with it in the worst-case scenario. Because that would be a really sad end to your adventure.
How does it work?
See answer... (Click here)How does the buyback process work?
In general, the conditions for the buyback vary slightly from garage to garage. However, every garage must offer a buyback and will do its best to refund as much of the purchase price as possible. How much will you get back?
The buyback guarantee is only an option and not an obligation. This means you don’t have to use it at all and can sell your camper on your own at the end of your trip.Tip: If you try this during the high season (from August to February), it is possible to get the full purchase price back. So it’s definitely worth a try and we don’t want to take this opportunity away from anyone.
If you don’t get your camper sold (or simply don’t have the time/desire to take care of it), you can use the buyback guarantee. In terms of price, all partner garages can always pay back around 50% (sometimes 60%) of the purchase price, because we also have to act economically.
Especially in the low season it is difficult to sell a camper because there are too few people looking for one. This is where the buyback guarantee is really helpful, as you won’t be stuck with the camper.
Extra 2Β – The Breakdown Warranty
Each of our partner workshops offers a so-called Breakdown Warranty. In the event that something was overlooked during the mechanical & safety check of the camper, you are covered in any case. Sexy!
What is Covered?
See answer... (Click here)In our eyes, this is probably our favorite feature on offer. We fought for it for a long time and you won’t find it in this form with any other provider. Yayy!
What does this guarantee cover?
All possible damage to the engine and gearbox is covered. So you’re covered if your car actually breaks down. What does this warranty not cover?
Damage to the interior or due to force majeure (e.g. stone chips in the windshield) are not covered. This is not the garage’s fault. Is the warranty limited in time?
Yes, because nobody can guarantee an infinitely long repair flat rate. If you drive up and down New Zealand’s mountains for months on end, even the best car will wear out. That’s why such a functional warranty must always be limited in time so that the whole thing remains fair for the garage.
Extra 3Β – The Self-Contained Seal
The self-contained seal quickly pays off, especially on longer trips, as it allows you to camp in the wild and not always have to pay for a pitch. Read more in the article.
How much do you save with the Self-Contained Seal?
See answer... (Click here)What is this?
With the self-contained vehicle you have access to many free and cheaper campsites all around newzealand. The calculator shows you how much money you save while traveling with a vehicle that is self-contained in comparison to a non-self-contained vehicle.
Extra 4 – The Mechanical & Background Check
All partner workshops carry out a technical check of the vehicle before selling a camper. A background check is also carried out on the previous owner and any outstanding parking tickets etc.. This way you can be sure that the camper will be handed over safely, both technically and legally.
You are not alone in Canada:
5. The Locations in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary
We work with several certified partner workshops in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. This has the advantage that you can use the buyback guarantee at both locations. We can also coordinate the workloads of the individual workshops so that the local mechanics do not have to work under time pressure.
Good to know: Every year, we check the quality, capacity utilization and processes of all partner workshops. Among other things, we use our own review system (similar to the one you may know from Airbnb).
6. The Procedure
Step 1: You fill out a request
Once you have completed your request, we will take a look at it first. We will answer your questions and check that everything is complete. We will also check whether one of our partner workshops in Canada has the capacity to prepare your desired model.

Rocky Mountains Alberta Canada

Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada
Step 2: Your place is secured
If everything fits, we will block a space for you straight away. So you can rest assured that a car will be prepared for you in Canada. Important: Nevertheless, the request remains non-binding up to this point. You can cancel at any time.
Step 3: You make the down payment
As soon as we have confirmation from at least one of our partner garages, we will contact you regarding the deposit. The local mechanics will then start searching for the car, carrying out repairs and all safety checks (but no earlier than 4 weeks before your arrival). You don’t have to do anything else and save yourself all the stress of searching for a car on site.

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada
Step 4: You pick up the camper
Well, and then you fly to Canada. Your car will be ready for you on your desired pick-up date. You can then take your time to look at it and buy it (or not). The local mechanics will help you with all the necessary steps.
Then it’s off on your adventure.
Have fun!
What do I do if I don't like the camper?
See answer... (Click here)If you don’t like the camper, you don’t have to buy it. In this case, you can cancel the request at any time. We will then refund your deposit and will be happy to give you a few more tips on buying a camper on your own.
Good to know: We work with several partner garages throughout Canada. If you don’t like the camper, other partner garages can often step in and offer you a vehicle. You can then also use your deposit there. So just talk to us about it. π
What do I need to take care of after buying?
See answer... (Click here)After purchasing, you only need to take care of two things:
The insurance and the Change of Ownership. Unfortunately, we cannot offer these directly, as a new car owner must always complete them themselves in Australia.
What we do offer, however, is a suitable “Addon”. Someone from our team will then do an insurance comparison for the model and travel dates and send this to you with a step-by-step guide via email
To the Camper AddonThis is optional and more for people who have never done this before.
7. The Deposit (415,- β¬)

Gastown, Vancouver, Canada
Can't you do it without a deposit?
More Infos...We tried it for a while without any initial down payment.
Here’s what happened: After the team compared, bought, repaired and put back cars on site, interested parties simply didn’t show up. Of course, that’s not possible.
To ensure that inquiries are meant seriously, there is a deposit.
Important to know: You don’t HAVE to buy the car on the spot. Take your time to look at it and then decide. If you don’t want to buy it, you will get the deposit back in full with the deposit protection.
This keeps everything fair for everyone involved.
And why 415 euros?
More Infos...Other providers demand up to 50% of the purchase price in advance. We certainly didn’t want to do the same. At the same time, we have to make the offer fair and safe for everyone involved. In our eyes, 415 euros is a good amount.
How is the 415 euros made up?
More Infos...The 415 euros are both the down payment for the car and the compensation for the organization and planning by KiwiQuest.
Important to note: The 415 euros are paid by the local workshops and not by you. For you, the prices remain the same as if you were buying on your own from our partner garages in Canada.
What happens to my deposit if I don't buy the car?
More Infos...With deposit protection, you get your deposit back if you don’t want to buy the car on site. At no time are you obliged to buy the camper prepared for you.
Are there any hidden conditions for repaying the deposit?
More Infos...No.
If you don’t want to buy the car on the spot and have booked the deposit protection, you will get your deposit back in full. You don’t need to give a reason or justify yourself (although your feedback would of course help us). No special conditions apply.
Will I receive a proof of payment / document as security?
More Infos...Yes, you will automatically receive a normal payment receipt for your down payment.
The receipt provides clarity and security for all parties involved. In your case, above all, so that you can prove at any time that you have made the down payment. (In general, however, it is always good to have a corresponding document).
Apart from that, there is of course an official purchase contract on site, which is explained to you step by step. However, you only have to sign this once you have seen and test-driven the car.
(Caution: Beware of companies that ask you to sign a contract before you have even seen the car!)
How much time can you take with the down payment?
More Infos...In general, it always makes sense to pay the deposit sooner rather than later.
We are fully booked every year and have to allocate the places we have primarily to people who have already paid the deposit. Background: The whole thing must always remain fair for the workshops. And even if the deposit does not commit you 100% to anything, it is still an important sign for the workshops that a request is meant seriously.
(Good to know: If you cancel your request, the deposit will be refunded. It is only about securing one of the places for you).
8. Buy or Rent a camper in Canada?

Buy your own Campervan in New Zealand
The advantages of buying a camper
β
You can keep the camper for as long as you like.
β
You can equip and decorate your camper individually.
β
When reselling in the high season: possible price increase
β
With the buyback guarantee, you don’t have to worry about the resale.
Price comparison for Campervan hire
We spent several months obtaining prices from all the major platforms and providers in Canada in order to make a comprehensive price comparison. The result is amazing!
Price comparison 1: Medium-sized Camper

Period: 3 months stay (November – January)
Travelers: 2 persons
Cheapest rental offer: approx. 9,250.00 euros ($CA 16,500.00)
Comparison for purchase: approx. 6,100.00 euros ($CA 10,945.00)
Note: The cheapest offer for rent would not even have the self-contained seal. So you would also have to pay for parking spaces every day. In addition, the buyback is not included in our comparison. With our buyback guarantee, you can expect a buyback of around 50% and, of course, you also have the option of selling the camper on your own and thus achieving a significantly better price.
Result: Buying a camper is ultimately around 75% cheaper than renting.
Price comparison 2: Large camper

Period: 3 months stay (November – January)
Travelers: 3 persons
Cheapest rental offer: approx. 15,050.00 euros ($CA 26,850.00)
Comparison when buying: approx. 8,945.00 euros ($CA 15,945.00)
Note: Again, the buyback is not included in our purchase comparison. For the sake of fairness, however, we would like to briefly mention here that in this example the model for rent was slightly larger than the model for purchase.
Result: In the end, buying a camper is approx. 65% cheaper than renting.
Why is campervan rental in Canada so expensive in comparison?
See answer... (Click here)Canada is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and is especially crowded in the high season. In the absolute peak months, far too many people flock to the country and at the same time there are far too few campervans and vehicles.
Of course, all the big rental companies are aware of this and pay well for it. True to the motto: if you want to get hold of a camper or motorhome, you have to pay a fortune.
For example, if you want to rent a motorhome for several months in the high season (September to January), it can quickly cost 20,000 euros. Crazy! After all, a comparable campervan would not even cost half as much if you bought it with a buyback guarantee.
Is it possible to get more than you spent when reselling?
See answer... (Click here)This tends not to be impossible, because in the high season there are too few campers in the country every year and at the same time too many travelers looking for one.
If you feel like trying the sale on your own: It can be worth it. Some people manage to recoup the entire purchase price or even more.
And if you can’t get rid of the camper, you have the buyback guarantee.
9. FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Is the request binding?
More Infos...No. A place will initially be blocked for you. You are not obliged to make a purchase at any time.
Where can I pick up the car?
More Infos...Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary are possible pick-up locations. You will of course receive the exact address in advance by e-mail.
What do I do in the event of damage?
More Infos...In the event of damage or a fault, always contact our partner workshop first. Then we will see together how to proceed.
Where can I sell the car again?
More Infos...The buyback option is currently available in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. But hey, of course you can also just sell your car elsewhere in the country on your own. π
How is the balance paid on site?
More Infos...There are three options:
Option 1: In cash (not possible with all partners)
You can only withdraw approx. 800,- $CAD per day from banks in Canada by EC card. Please plan for this and possibly bring some of the money with you from Germany.Note: This option is not available at all partner garages.
Option 2: By credit card (not possible with all partners)
Visa or MasterCard credit cards are possible. Please ask about the limits set and have them changed if necessary so that nothing goes wrong with the payment.Note: To be on the safe side, you may also want to ask whether the credit card has been activated for Canada.
Option 3: By bank transfer (recommended)
Our partner workshops use wise.com to enable payment by bank transfer. We would also recommend that you open an account here, as it only takes 20 minutes and is generally very practical for Canada. What about insuring the campervan?
More Infos...Unfortunately, new car owners in Canada always have to take out their own insurance. We are therefore not allowed to offer this. However, the local teams will be happy to point you in the right direction. Especially if you ask them again on site.
Possibly good to know:
In principle, you do not have to insure your camper in Canada, as there is no obligation to do so. Nevertheless, you should of course do so.If you would like support with this:
We offer optional support for insuring and registering your camper. Someone from our team will make an insurance comparison for your model + trip and send you the result with step-by-step instructions and the relevant contact points. You can find out more here. How much can the actual model differ from the desired model?
More Infos...As a rule, the partner workshops manage to provide a suitable model. However, if nothing suitable is available on the public market, they may have to resort to a slightly smaller model to ensure that you are not completely without a camper when you arrive.
In this case, you will of course still have the option of deciding against the purchase on site or (if available) choosing a different model.
Should you pick up the camper right after the flight or book a few days in the hotel first?
More Infos...We would definitely recommend spending 1 – 2 days in a hotel before picking up the camper and arriving relaxed.
The flight is really long and even if the vehicle handover, purchase, insurance and so on don’t take an eternity, you still need to be mentally prepared. Doing all this with massive jet lag is generally not a good idea.
What is the difference between the Medium Camper Basic & Plus?
More Infos...In general, the two models differ in size. The Medium Camper Plus models are slightly longer overall, which generally means more storage space and sleeping area. The lying surface itself can also be converted into a seat in the Plus model. Although this is not designed for long-term sitting in the camper, it can be helpful on rainy days.
In addition, you simply give the local workshop more financial leeway when preparing your vehicle. In many cases, this will significantly improve the quality.
Do I have to give an exact date when I make my request or can I change it later?
More Infos...You can first book an approximate date to secure one of the places and then change it again later when you know your actual arrival date. All you need to do is send an email to and (or to the team at the partner garage that is handling your request).
What happens after I have paid the deposit for the camper?
More Infos...Once your deposit has been received, you will receive another email with proof of payment and contact details, as well as a booking confirmation from the workshop itself a little later.
The teams on site will then start with the preparations.
How much time do I have to make the deposit?
More Infos...In general, it’s always a good idea to make the deposit sooner rather than later.
We are fully booked every year and must prioritize the spots we have for people who have already made their deposit. Background: This must always remain fair to the workshops. And even if the deposit doesn’t obligate you to anything 100%, it still is an important signal to the workshops that a request is serious.
(Good to know: If you cancel your request, we reimburse the deposit. Itβs just about securing one of the spots for you.)
Is it already known what type of vehicle it will be (model & brand)?
More Infos...The partner workshops always start with all preparations only after the deposit is received (and at the earliest 5 weeks before pickup). They must, of course, always work with the models that the public car market provides.
However, there is, of course, experience on which vehicles are often used for which model:
